Danny K

Daniel Koppel, professionally known as Danny K, is a South African singer, songwriter, producer, entrepreneur and philanthropist whose smooth blend of pop, R&B and soul has made him a successful contemporary recording artists. Born in Johannesburg in1977, Danny developed a passion for music from an early age before graduating from the University of the Witwatersrand. After several years of pursuing a recording contract, he broke through in 2000 with his debut single Hurts So Bad, a chart-topping success that introduced one of South Africa's most recognisable pop voices and launched a career spanning more than two decades.

Danny followed his successful debut with a string of hit albums, including Danny K, J23, This Is My Time, Across the Line and Good Look. Along the way he produced memorable songs such as Hurts So Bad, You Don't Know My Name, I Can't Imagine, This Is My Time, Across the Line, Brown Eyes and Made 2 Love You. One of the defining moments of his career came in 2005 when he partnered with kwaito icon Mandoza on the collaborative album Same Difference, a groundbreaking crossover project that united pop and kwaito and became one of South Africa's best-loved collaborations. Throughout his career he has also recorded with artists including Johnny Clegg, Kabelo Mabalane, ProKid, HHP, Donald, Da L.E.S, TK and Jimmy Dludlu.

A four-time South African Music Award winner, Danny has also received Kids' Choice Awards, Crystal Awards, a YOU Magazine Award and a South African Style Award in recognition of his contribution to the entertainment industry. Beyond music, he is widely respected for co-founding the SHOUT Foundation with Kabelo Mabalane following the death of Lucky Dube. The organisation has raised millions of rand for literacy initiatives and school libraries while promoting safer communities across South Africa.
